We work with individuals for outpatient therapy with an age range of 12+. Michael is a certified Dialectical Behaviour Therapist (DBT). He has acquired training in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), Sand-Tray Therapy, and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy.
Michael's primary areas of interest and training include the following:
- Trauma: "Oh yes, the past can hurt. But the way I see it, you can either run from it or learn from it." This famous line by Rafiki in The Lion King summarizes the journey through trauma. Though your past may feel daunting, there is a path towards hope and freedom. Though I use strategic trauma interventions such as Accelerated Resolution Therapy, we believe the most effective start towards healing from trauma is connection. Our hope is you will leave a session thinking to yourself, "Someone understands me."
- Perfectionism: "Practically perfect people never permit sentiment to muddle their thinking." Mary Poppins understands the pursuit of perfectionism surrenders grace for self and others. If you notice an absence of emotional freedom and grace in your life, I will help you discover your motivations, barriers, and teach strategies towards a life free from the shackles of perfectionism.
- ADHD: "Squirrel!" The dogs from Pixar's classic movie Up know a thing or two about distraction. As someone with ADHD myself, I (Michael) know the difficulty in organizing, focusing, and losing motivation. Through my own experience and trainings, I will help you understand ADHD, how it impacts your life, and provide you with practical skills to help you become the person you want to be.
- Compassion Fatigue and Burnout: "Houston, we have a problem." Caring for others is a tremendous responsibility. Whether you are a fellow therapist, nurse, pastor, or parent, we know firsthand helping others can quickly deplete compassion reserves. Learning the art of self-differentiation and slowing "the speed of the game" will help eliminate burn-out and replenish your capacity for stress.
Michael has also gained experience in the following areas:
